Keys To The Game
Public Enemy No. 1. We all know which Sen has the biggest target on his back for this game. And while he needs to absolutely feel a heavy toll from this game (within the bound of the rules etc etc etc), our boys can’t go chasing him every time he’s on the ice. The game and the points are always going to be more important than personal vengeance. Level heads and opportunistic play should take care of both the game and the player.
Kick ‘Em When They’re Down. The Sens are having a rough season. Not that you’d know it from how they’ve played against us, but it’s time to change that narrative. Since this time last year, they’ve lost draft picks, lost their GM, lost their coach, lost players to lengthy injury and suspension, had to look at Brady Tkachuk’s face every night, underperformed to last-place in the division, and had their operations slammed in the media by former players… all while ending our playoff hopes last season and taking 2 out of 3 meetings against us so far this season. We are the better team in the standings, and we need to play like it.
Be Net-Minded. While Alex Lyon has been on a mission to win every heart and mind in this city, the Sens have had the opposite problem – they don’t have a single goalie boasting a Save% over .890 or GAA under 3.30 (Anton Forsberg leads Ottawa with a .889 and 3.35, respectively). If our boys even THINK they have a lane, they need to take the chance. Even if it just makes some chaos, the Ottawa goalie corps obviously isn’t going to stop what other teams will. I want us to drop a dime on these guys tonight.
