The beat goes on. After getting points in five of six games the Red Wings have now lost six straight games in regulation. In four of the six games the Red Wings have given up at least five goals and they have lost the last four by a total score of 19-2. Things do not get any easier for Detroit tonight as they welcome one of the top teams in the NHL tonight in the Washington Capitals.
Washington comes in on a little bit of a losing streak having lost three of their last four games, including last night to Tampa Bay. There is not much that needs to be said about the Capitals offensively, we all basically know the names. John Carlson (8G, 28A), Evgeny Kuznetsov (10G, 13A), Jakub Vrana (11G, 9A), Tom Wilson (9G, 9A), Nicklas Backstrom (4G, 14A) and of course The Great Eight himself Alex Ovechkin (16G, 10A). In net Braden Holtby (2.86 GAA, .909 Sv %) and Ilya Samsonov (2.65 GAA, .912Sv%) backstop the team in the net.
This is going to be a very difficult game for Detroit. Washington is a very offensively talented team who likes to play physical, get after the puck carrier and push the pace when possible. They come in scuffling a bit but what better way to get back into the win column as an offensive dynamo then to play a team that is really struggling to keep the puck out of their own next or score goals themselves. Then again, Detroit has played some of its best hockey games against the top teams in the league so who knows.
