Today we’re continuing our look at the Red Wings’ offseason additions and how we see them slotting into next season’s lineup. Today’s signee is one everyone liked, definitely no one complained about, and was universally lauded by pundits as being spot on in both term and dollars.
Alright, I guess there were some varied opinions, but let’s dive into why.
Justin Holl is a 6-foot-3, right-shot defenseman who spent the last five seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a slow-build project for them – actually a former second-round pick of Chicago who started his pro career with a full season in the ECHL before three years with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, where he won a Calder Cup championship in 2018. Even after graduating to the NHL the following season, he was famously healthy scratched seventy-one games by then-head coach Mike Babcock in 2018-19.
