Quick Hits: The League of Extraordinarily Gentlemanly Players Edition

In Red Wings Land

Detroit Red Wings’ Nicklas Lidstrom missing 1 trophy from great career
One player retired without winning an award he undoubtedly deserved and another wished he had retired before winning a different award.

It’s an absolute joke that Lidstrom never won the Lady Byng.

Around the NHL

Lady Byng Trophy finalists announced
Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews and Ryan O’Reilly were named finalists for the Lady Byng Trophy on Thursday.

The award, voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association, is given annually to the NHL player who best combines sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct and ability. The winner will be announced during the conference finals.

Jaccob Slavin was robbed. Also, it’s ridiculous that a player who attempted to break into a security guard’s car while she was in it, then dropped his pants in September is nominated for an award for gentlemanly conduct.

Masterton Trophy finalists announced
Stephen Johns, Oskar Lindblom and Bobby Ryan were named finalists for the Masterton Trophy on Thursday.

The award, voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, is presented annually to the NHL player voted to best exemplify the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The winner will be announced during the conference finals.

Lindblom has got to be a heavy favorite.

Pastrnak ruled ‘unfit to participate’ with Bruins
“As for the League, it’s ‘unfit to participate’ right now,” coach Bruce Cassidy said of the forward. “Hopefully that changes in the near future. Any time players miss a session where we expect them back at full speed, then until he’s out there it is a concern for us as a team. But we’re just going to forge ahead.”

Pastrnak is the latest big name player to be listed as “unfit to participate.” What does that mean? Who knows!
