Red Wings Rumblings
Let’s rip the band-aid off quick and start with the playoff picture after last night’s OT loss to Washington.
While the Red Wings earned a much-needed point, they really needed two points in regulation to keep up pace. Washington has a game in hand with a two-point cushion from Detroit. Two teams behind the Red Wings, the Devils and Islanders, have 76 and 75 points, respectively. (Detroit has 79)
At this point, I don’t expect the Wings to make the playoffs, and that’s fine.
Meanwhile, a huge game for one of Detroit’s top prospects yesterday. Axel Sandin Pellikka picked up the game-winning goal in 3OT:
ASP also logged 42 minutes and 13 seconds of ice time in that game. No, it’s not a typo. That is the third-most ice time logged by a player in SHL history.. and he’s only 19 years old.
