Red Wings sign J.T. Compher to a five-year deal

Another Wolverine is coming back to Michigan. The Red Wings announced they have signed forward J.T. Compher to a five-year deal worth $5.1 million AAV.

Compher 52 points on a stacked Avalanche team in 2022-2023. He has played in over 480 NHL games but has yet to have a 20-goal season. Instead, he’s been a consistent energy guy. His playoff experience is a plus, too. You certainly hope to see him find the back of the net more but it’s a fair-market value

Compher is a swiss-army-knife type of player. He played a bit at center and at wing for the Avs – first line, second line, etc. Mix in the fact that he is a right-hand shot and it’s not hard to see why Steve Yzerman was willing to give him term. Compher just turned 28 so he’s still got a lot of good hockey ahead of him.  He’s the second ‘big name’ forward the Wings have signed today. The other was Daniel Sprong, who signed a one-year deal.

In other news, the Wings signed some AHL depth Saturday afternoon. Forward Tim Gettinger is getting a one-year two-way deal and defenseman Brogan Rafferty has inked a two-year two-way deal with Detroit.
